If they survive, Edwards is dead in the water, as far as Presidential aspirations go.
By the way, few seem to have noticed this column in Huffington Post that came out shortly after Michelle Malkin had the hide to point out how offensive Marcotte & McEwen had been in their blogs. Here's an extract from the HP column:
The basic story is that uber-moronic Right-tards such as Michelle Malkin, whose IQ has been in an internment camp for the better part of her life, thinks it's really bad that Amanda said words like "fuck" on her blog.
(As if Malkin's criticism was about the use of one word.)How much sense does it make to answer criticism of immature, intemperate and offensive expression of political views by making your own immature, offensive and intemperate attack?

For Edwards, it is over. The hill was already high to climb. Two staffers made that climb insurmountable. His next question is when will he drop out, and which candidate will he support? Also, has he a chance for VP?
I think no matter what happens, Edwards lost key gravity. His fight against Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama looked difficult, but he brought a personality they did not. However, since he wasn't as careful in screening his staff as much as he might've, this happened.
That his staff is free to say what they like is not in question, but Edwards was not wise in forgetting that his staff represent him both in message and demeanor. Here, the message was consistent with the Edwards brand, but the profane, bitter demeanor was not. Edwards, like Obama, represented a new look among Democrat. While the left still is trying to shed the shrill image of Howard Dean and meet middle of the roaders will a more stabile, thoughtful persona, it looked like Edwards might be that. Not now. Marcotte and McEwan came off like college protesters, not serious thinkers looking to reform American policy. For Edwards, having allowed them into his circle, and then, allowing William Donahue to influence him, he has lost a lot of crowd. Marcotte and McEwan are baggage, bad PR for him.
