The short back and sides Son of God

Was Jesus Christ’s hairstyle normal for his time? - Slate Magazine

Well, I don't recall reading about this topic before - what hair length was common for Jewish men in Jesus' time? Seems short hair was more common, hence the popular depiction of Jesus with long flowing locks is thought to have more to do with emulating the image of the old top Roman gods.

Interesting.

I got into an argument on Mark Richardson's blog once with the ultra conservative anonymouses about hair length and masculinity. Naturally they argued 'men have short hair, women have long hair'; naturally I went down the wanky relativistic liberal modern line and argued that historical contexts change, bla bla bla.

A day after that I was looking around on wikipedia and discovered the interesting factoid about Jesus being depicted in quite early artworks with long, flowing locks. If I'd known that a day earlier I would certainly have bought it up in conversation. Merry Christmas, Steve!
