Juices, noted

Yesterday, I drank for the first time "cold pressed" mandarin juice, manufactured in Brisbane from Australian produce, apparently, and I thought it very nice.

Which reminded me - a long time ago, in Malaysia, I bought watermelon juice, made in the juicer while I waited.  From memory, there was a sugar syrup added too, but I also recall it being very nice.

Is there a reason that, in Australia, despite the myriad of juice combinations you can now see on the supermarket shelf, none seem to contain watermelon juice?   Does it not preserve well?

Watermelon juice is not a good idea because even watermelon itself has a high GI. Fruit juices are a con. No fibre, big fructose hit. Not a good thing.

Well, I wasn't really arguing that they are healthy...just somewhat tasty.

Watermelon itself I am conflicted about. The high GI is one issue but watermelon also contains high levels of lycopene and citrulline. The former is an good carotenoid that has been associated with keep prostate healthy, and the latter is an amino acid that the kidneys convert into arginine, which is a necessary substrate for nitric oxide production, which is vital for keeping blood vessels flexible, immune responses and at constitutive levels acts an antioxidant; and is also involved in neural transmission. So watermelon consumption does help lower blood pressure albeit only in a rather minor fashion. .
