Message to Jason

All of the unpopular ideas in that list are unpopular for pretty good reason.

What I find more productive is to look at fanciful ideas of the likes of libertarians - who, for pretty good reason, can be blamed as being behind the large scale destruction of cities and infrastructure later this century and next, all for current greed.

A pretty good unpopular idea, then:  confiscate their riches and use it for clean energy development, and consider sending them into exile in some God forsaken desert.

OK, now that I read it more carefully, there is one that is non-controversial.

Homer, I find it hard to believe you found 5 you agree with. I'm assuming that doesn't include the "wear your bondage gear to work" idea.

Jason, does "agree with" just mean in some sort of ideal sense, without expecting it to be practical or realistic? Because so many of them are kinda nutty, in my books.

these are the ones I agree with.

I would agree with the 1st and 4th one on my list below without reservation. The only one which fits under the 'ideal world' caveat is the one about privatising marriage.

Even though people decry it as “superficial,” there’s nothing wrong with explicitly prioritizing physical attractiveness in choosing a partner, any more than other qualities like education, sense of humor, etc

There’s nothing wrong with relationships with large age gaps. The maturity of the older partner helps the younger one grow and increases the chance that the relationship ends well.

We should privatize marriage. Let anyone marry whomever and however many people they want — just draw up a contract to define the terms of the relationship(s) as you choose. There’s no good reason for the government to be involved in this

We should end the tradition of gift-giving, because it’s so inefficient. Gift-givers are much worse at choosing something the recipient will enjoy than the recipient would’ve been.

Addiction is mostly rational.

We should de-stigmatize suicide, because some people would in fact be better off ending their lives

People in senior positions should continuously have their cognition tested, to monitor possible decline of fluid intelligence, alertness and judgment
