I've o...I saw that Return to Oz movie as a kid. I've only ever read the first two Oz books; I have never seen the later ones. I have a little familiarity with their plots though as in the 90s a cartoon series ran on ABC telly which was based heavily on them. If I run into them in a bookshop though I'd probably buy them! Have you read...Thank you for fulfilling your duty.

Have you read some of the later Oz books?

I was thinking last night, there was a Disney Return to Oz movie which was considered terrible. I am pretty sure I saw it, but can remember absolutely nothing about it. (I have a vague feeling that I thought "that wasn't quite as bad as they said it would be".)

I think maybe there was a talking tree. Or a talking rock; or a talking "something that doesn't normally talk". It's remarkable how completely gone from my brain it is.Stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04108945551064939734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12614519.post-9256910026933700952013-03-16T09:17:35.446+10:002013-03-16T09:17:35.446+10:00A lot of the internet feministos are cranky about ...A lot of the internet feministos are cranky about this movie because of the way it has removed the Strong Woman Character (Dorothy or those other Oz heroines who came in the books after the first one) and replaced her with a chap.

I actually saw a quote from the producer of this movie saying that there are no 'fairytales' featuring men in a central role - he believed this movie was filling that gap. Well, I immediately thought, that chap is certainly extremely ignorant of fairytales, and it's a rather poor basis for a movie like this. (Calling 'Oz' a fairytale is a bit of a stretcher in itself.)TimThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10333303180015967125noreply@blogger.com
