The former is an good carotenoid that has been associated with keep prostate healthy, and the latter is an amino acid that the kidneys convert into arginine, which is a necessary substrate for nitric oxide production, which is vital for keeping blood vessels flexible, immune responses and at constitutive levels acts an antioxidant; and is also involved in neural transmission. So watermelon consumption does help lower blood pressure albeit only in a rather minor fashion. .
