Seems most mainstream commentary gives Biden's acceptance speech the thumbs up; there were notable other highlights (none of which I have got around to watching yet); we are going to get to see if Steve Bannon's visage deteriorates even further when he is in prison with no access to skincare products. (Or do we learn the secret of his homeless bum looks is that he has always used whatever the American equivalent of a bar of Solvol might be for his morning facewash?)
All in all, not a bad week for the Democrats and the hope of putting the country back on some sort of more even keel.
Mind you, the real scandal should be that there is still, probably, support for Trump in the 40 something percent range.
And the scandal about that should be that no one is talking seriously about how to undo the Right wing media information bubble that has led the Right to gas-lit itself into such idiocy that they would defend an outright authoritarian, corrupt, intensely dumb President because he's their authoritarian, corrupt, intensely dumb man who (they think) "owns the libs".
The US is going to have to do something about that if they want to have hopes of pulling back from a the artificial and poisonous reality maybe a full third is fully living in, with another 15% or so half way in.
It is utterly, utterly ludicrous that Right wing culture war spivs are trying the "no, you're the ones dividing us" line in light of the appalling content of the Trump campaign, the likes of which the press - and any serious pundit - should never have helped "normalise" by not calling it out at the time.

ReplyDeleteClown World Alert.
Did you forget that Biden has dementia? Did that slip your mind that Biden had dementia? I would see it as a sign that you had dementia also, but then again a lot of people are stuck in that same sort of dementia.
Reagan was showing signs of serious brain fog bordering on early onset Alzheimers around about 1986. But Biden is already worse than Reagan was circa 1992.
Biden won't be able to wipe his own arse much longer. This is a case of the Deep State engaging in elder abuse and laughing at us.
Steve, I haven't seen you comment much on it and maybe you have, but what do you make of the effect of the Black Lives Matter protests and what could kindly be described as mass vandalism on behalf of the protesters - and the tacit support thereof by Democrats? I presume Trump is going to bloviate a lot about law and order in the election, and it does indeed seem like an issue that is tearing the Democrats apart.
ReplyDeletetend to agree. Biden makes an average speech made to lok good because Trumnp says he can't!
ReplyDeleteThe boy who stutters was spellbinding
"All in all, not a bad week for the Democrats and the hope of putting the country back on some sort of more even keel."
ReplyDeleteSo implausible Their crowd are as bad at running a surplus budget as the lunatics that Trump brought in. They are going to be less effective at calling CEO's up and haranguing them to create jobs. Thats a very real Trump talent. Trump is a stooge for Israel but the Democrats are if anything far more oligarchy controlled. And Biden has advanced dementia. Where are these bonehead assumptions coming from?
A Tulsi/Yang team could have brought the country some ways back to a more even keel. But the DNC ruthlessly stopped either of these two from gaining momentum. How strange you leftists have become today. I have so much more understanding of the old labour Bovver Boys who genuinely felt they were supporting the workers. This current left; you cannot understand them at all, outside of the differentiated Western media Pravda.
I find this commentary amazing. The Democrats are scuttling their ship right before your eyes. If I were an American my vote would have been there for the taking. In a heartbeat I would have voted for Tulsi/Yang had they been allowed to succeed. After watching the murder of the anti-terrorist. After seeing Mnuchen and cabal loot the country for the big end of town, I would have wanted to vote for anyone BUT Trump. But the utter madness of the Democrats would have left me having no choice but to vote for the incumbent crazy. So many people will feel that way. I would have to vote for Trump even though I have an almost religious belief that we should always vote third party.
ReplyDeleteTim, Tim, Tim.
ReplyDeleteI think that Biden and the Democrats are too quiet about vandalising shops, etc, as being counterproductive to real change.
That said, I haven't really noticed that it is "tearing them apart" either.
As for how extensive the problem is in the US at the moment: Portland seems to be a special case all on its own, being especially prone to alt.right provocation (often from out of State, I believe) and anarchists amongst the more moderate BLM people happy to not only fight them, but break every shop window for the hell of it while they are at it.
But you know the population of Portland? 650,000. It's a town that represents less than 1/325 of the population.
I have to do something - will add to this later.
Yes, all the crazies gather in Portland and they make national news. I expect they have bets on what the next idiocy out of Oregon will be in the rest of the country. But it's not *just* confined to Portland, the craziness - eg, the chaos of the 'Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone'. Or de Blasio's moves to 'defund the police', whatever that means in practice, in one of the biggest cities in the country, New York.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I expect you've been celebrating your Significant Birthday, so Significant Well Wishes and Blessings to you!
No, it's not my birthday yet, Tim. I'm just spending weeks getting mentally ready for it. :)
ReplyDeleteI was going to add to my comment yesterday that, yeah, damaging vandalism carried out in the name of BLM has happened in other cities. However, I think polling indicates:
a. if you ignore Fox News and Right wing punditry, a pretty strong majority in the US do genuinely feel there is a significant policing culture problem in the country.
b. most people are not begging for national government intervention real local rioting.
Such polling results indicate that the amount of damage being caused by BLM is not as extensive as to be politically damaging to the Democrats.
