My dieting tips

"So, how's the current bout of 5/2 dieting going?" is a question none of my readers ever ask - so I will tell you anyway.

Been going good.   It's great to feel the pants getting looser and wondering if I will have to buy a smaller belt.   I seem to still be losing about 500 - 600g a week.   Not precisely sure where I started, but BMI is now a solid 26 instead of what I think was a verging on 27.

And I have decided it's easier than ever, because I am finding this routine for the 600 cal days is not boring me yet:

Breakfast - cup of coffee (with a small amount of milk) and a banana

Mid-morning - cup of tea (with small amount of milk)

Lunch - Cup of Soup (about 110 cal or less)

Sometime after lunch - 50 g of beef jerky (which is remarkably low on calories, but satisfying)

Dinner - one of the Cole's or Woolies pre made single serve salads.  These are pretty good now, and very convenient.  Usually they are around 250 cal.

 My daily total calories might be a little over 600 cal, but I doubt it ever reaches 700.  Still works.

So my big tips:   beef jerky and supermarket pre-made, individual salads.

  1. I've started doing a variant - the 16/8 (eat only in an 8 hour window) - first did it everyday but now skipping on weekends because it's too much hassle with weekend socialisation etc.

  2. Yeah, I have read about those diets, although I think most suggest finishing eating early in the evening, which is not very convenient if you work late often.

    Anyway, what sort of weight loss have you been getting with it?

  3. How long are you going to be on this brain-shrinking diet Steve? I think Jason's approach is more sensible because you can have a diet based around healthy fat and lose weight at the same time.

  4. I put on 2-3 kg after starting WFH mainly because of snacking I think, even though with work from home I had more time to exercise than before. so my main aim was to get rid of that. I think I'm more or less down to my normal weight again (75 kg) after maybe 2 mths on the diet? not sure how effective that is but continuing it to see how it goes. I've usually hovered around 75 without any normal dieting but I'm guessing my boxing weight (though I don't plan on doing that very soon but good indicator of what my ideal would be) is probably 70.

I've also now started experimenting with flipping the heavier meal to lunch and the lighter meal to dinner which actually makes things easier and is possible when working from home - easier because I can make the 8 hr window without rushing to prepare dinner. and what I used to have for a light lunch is broccoli and canned tuna so that's my dinner 3-4 nights a week now. people say healthy diets are expensive, I find I am saving heaps and heaps especially now I prepare almost all meals except on weekends. canned tuna, fresh veg, the occasional steak, pork soup bones ($5 buys you 1 kg which last for 2 days and you find a more than satisfactory amount of meat and fat even on soup bones)
