It is breathtakingly stupid that American conservatives should rush to play a game of "whataboutism" to try to downplay how Trump talked about the press compared to Biden's very occasional snappiness with reporters.
There is just zero comparison.
How thick and dumb do you have to be to not see the fascist nature of continually, at rallies, and elsewhere, calling all mainstream networks and journalists "the enemy of the people" unless they are bootlickers to the most absurd character ever to hold the Presidency; and outright lying about things like "and look up the back, they're turning the cameras off now."
And you know what - it's weird, but the absolutely dumbest and most dishonest version of an American conservative seems to be gay conservative commentators - see Gateway Pundit and the awful Glenn Greenwald. Greenwald's denunciation of Biden's hot mic snark is so weirdly over the top that it seems many assumed he was being sarcastic, but the following tweets just confirm he is an absolute partisan nut with not an iota of a sense of perspective.
First time I've had any respect for Biden. Journos should be treated with the contempt they deserve. Midwits responsible for stoking covid hysteria and non evidence based restrictions here
ReplyDeleteI would give more credit to your views if you weren't one of the Twitter posse obsessed with parsing every single word of Norman Swan.
ReplyDeleteJournalists (and politicians) have had a pretty tough job given the range of medical and scientific views on a myriad of pandemic related issues. As I have said from the start, this makes me inclined to cut some slack when it comes to questioning whether restriction X is/was really warranted. Of course, no slack should be given to the antivaxxers and never mask-ers.

ReplyDeleteWhat Jason said. And besides, not being a Trump groupie, and actually being angry with him on a number of matters ..... But on the other hand WHEN was his criticisms of this appalling mainstream media not valid? Can you give us specifics Steve? You wanna back this up with some kind of specific example of where Trump dumping on these unacceptable crazies was not a valid thing.
ReplyDeleteThats the one thing Trump was good for. Abusing the media and deflating their power. Actually he had a real talent for microeconomic reform as well. Plus he was good at getting on the phone and arm-twisting CEO's to provide more local jobs. You are just so one-eyed about everything Steve. You never give credit where credit is due. He murdered two great anti-terrorist heroes on a peace mission, and he allowed himself to be tempted briefly in messing with the young stuff with Epstein. Clearly that particular evil didn't take hold of him. We can be grateful that he had such an exceptionally gorgeous woman at home.
But he's done seriously bad stuff. Yet you can't even recognise when he does something right. Abusing the terrorist media is a good thing. They lie all the time. Its like you never grew out of believing everything you saw on the television.
you're obviously not up to date on the 'science' of masking according to OzSage and the SMH Steve, according to them, unless you're wearing N95s you're basically a dead man walking. cloth masks and surgical masks are now useless according to them and according to Fauci suddenly, there's now a push to make N95s virtually compulsory. Yet only a couple of weeks ago the midwit media was saying that one week (yes ONE week) less of mandated masks and QR check ins in NSW made a big difference to spread. Yet Victoria is in no better a position than NSW.
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be complete mass amnesia of the dimwit media on this - to take them on their word, one week when perhaps a smaller % of people didn't wear masks because they weren't mandated made a difference to the spread of Omicron (and most people if they wore masks would have only been wearing surgical and cloth masks - there was virtually zero awareness of the need to wear N95s then) yet now they're all saying cloth and surgical masks are worse than useless. So which is it? did that one week without a mask mandate make a difference or not? ( and let's forget about the worthless QR codes - there was no testing capacity then anyway so knowing you were a casual or even close contact would have made bugger all difference)
People need to hold these morons to account - Brad Hazzard virtually admitted the useless outdoor masks were introduced in the last lockdown because of constant badgering from the laptop class of 95-105 IQ pseudo wonks called journalists,
Yea what Jason said. When Nassim Taleb came up with his hypothesis as to why masks could work in the wider societal setting this was a reasonable HYPOTHESIS. The idea never past muster beyond hypothesis stage. I tentatively agreed with it since it was based on the idea that viruses were transmitted in microscopic water droplets. We needed to await empirical results.
ReplyDeleteWell he was wrong. His mathematical arguments were sound. But he wasn't approaching it as an empirical scientist specialising in epidemiology would. Of course those guys are captured by the deep state since they can be sacked if they tell the truth. But the point is that the empirical evidence told us that masks were useless so the mask mandates should have ended after the first few weeks of confusion.
How about that. Back on twitter for the first time in years.
Not everyone is right all the time. But Taleb at that point had a reputation of being more right more often than just about anyone living. So I was willing to give the concept the benefit of the doubt for a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteBut there really is such a thing as science Steve. I know how much you hate science. But science starts with hypothesis building but its only ever tentative until the empirical evidence comes out. Thats how science works Steve. Get used to the process.
This time around all tweets will be kosher-safe guaranteed. I want to deal with what suite of policies and tendencies we need to quickly grow a civilisation out of the upcoming collapse.
ReplyDeleteSoony displaying catallaxy symptoms.
ReplyDeleteIs it too much for you to merely read. No the masks merely help you stop spreading omicron , not from dying from it.
Oh I'm sorry. I didn't realise you had an electron microscope old feller?
ReplyDeleteWell the thing is some people DO have an electron microscope and they know that there is no virus. Plus there aren't just several computer generated fake variants as you have been lead to believe. The computers have generated over 2 million fake variants.
You are such a dick. If there was a virus, and if a virus could cause problems, obviously a mask wouldn't do a damn thing. You don't even have a clue as to how big a virus is do you old feller? Old yeller?
Jason, you're sounding just a tad hysterical.
ReplyDeleteI had a look at what Fauci has said about masks in January - it was fine. Some quotes:
"During an appearance on CNN Tuesday, White House medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci said people using cloth masks should consider upgrading to surgical-grade masks as the highly transmissible omicron variant spreads.
"I recommend you get the highest quality mask that you can tolerate and that's available to you," Fauci said to CNN's Anderson Cooper....
Guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most recently updated in October, noted that surgical-grade masks and N95 respirators should be reserved for medical personnel. However, Fauci said Tuesday that such masks are no longer in short supply.
"Right now, there doesn't seem to be any shortage of the masks that were some time ago were not available," Fauci said. "If you can tolerate an N95, do it. If you want to get a KN95, fine."...
Fauci added Tuesday that while cloth masks don't offer as much protection as surgical-grade masks, they still limit the spread of COVID-19.
"What the CDC has said — and it gets misinterpreted — they're saying wearing any mask is better than no mask at all," Fauci said. "But there is a degradation of capability of preventing you from getting infected and preventing you from transmitting it to someone else. So, we should be wearing the best possible mask that we can get. That's a fact." "
What's the big deal?
I don't read the SMH much now, nor do I follow every word out of every person who is OzSage. I agree that there seems to be some in OzSage who have gone over the top.
But to carry on that this is a massive problem with journalists who need to be thrashed in the street or something - you're sounding like a Trumpian wannabe fascist.
Soony just being lazy
ReplyDeleteBrain damaged conservatives? Now that's clickbait. Biden probably has at least mild cognitive impairment. Both his age and neurosurgery put the odds at close to .5. Trump's cognition is like dark matter: doesn't absorb anything, doesn't reflect anything, and we're not sure it exists. Morrison is brain stem functional and Albanese is in dire need of neurogenesis. We are doomed.
