Forget a new euthanasia law | Mick Hume - Times Online
What a strange week. First, I find myself agreeing more with Mark Bahnisch than News Ltd; now I find a column by "Britain's only self-confessed libertarian Marxist newspaper columnist" against euthanasia law reform.
Let it be noted that it is not only conservative-ish Catholics who are leery of euthanasia.

This afternoon I was able to look at one of the videos Philip Nitschke's carting around the place as a guide to building at at-home suicide kit. It's on YouTube - I found myself unexpectedly revolted by it.
I'm not necessarily against people making an honest and considered decision to take their own life, but this video didn't say anything about that. It even treated it as a kind of joke.
The video's called 'Doing it with Betty'. It's linked on the Exit International website. Here:

Gosh. That music is so wildly inappropriate, it is hard to credit that Exit could possibly deliberately have chosen it. (I suppose it is possible that it was added by the person who posted the video as a bit of macabre irony. But given the way Betty smiles and shows as much emotional investment as if she were baking pumpkin scones, I doubt it.)
Everyone should feel great sympathy for people and families that face a slow and painful death. But Phil and his cronies simply want to make suicide as easy as possible for even the merely bored with life, or those who don't like the inconvenience of aging bodies. That is what I can't stand, and while ever he is around, he is euthanasia's own worst enemy. (I think he said as much himself in the Enough Rope interview.)
