Guess what I ate for the first time on Saturday?
Steak tartare. It was at a French cafe at South Bank which my wife and I quite like; and no, I didn't order it for myself, but my wife had it as a main and there was too much for her.
The idea of the dish has never appealed to me (I am not even that keen on seafood sushimi), but it was pretty nice. I expected a raw meat flavour but the seasoning overrides all of that.
See, all of you with an electric cook top can now cut your electricity bill substantially by eating the way lions do, and help save the planet from CO2 emissions. (This line designed to annoy Jason.)
actually I like raw dead animal

ReplyDeleteyou don't eat steaks well done
I have been have been eating rarer with age - although for a steak, I still like medium rare, not rare.
ReplyDeleteCooking is an aid to digestion but anything can be taken too far. The people I listen too suggest maintaining a small amount of raw meat in the diet, since many nutrients that cannot be sourced well anywhere else, and will be destroyed by the cooking process, will still be present. So here and there the oysters kilpatrick ... the occasional sushi .... Undercooking the egg yolk now and then .... Leaving a bit of red in the middle of the burnt steak now and then. All good practices but no need to take them too far. I think diminishing returns might kick in fairly early but a little bit here and there is a good thing I'm supposing.
ReplyDeleteAussies do Soony. It goes much better when drinking red wine
ReplyDeleteDepends what meat you at. Parasites can be transmitted(sushi, pork). Not a fan of raw meat but raw eggs are definitely worth considering.
ReplyDeleteEgg white is crap protein and the most sickly part of the egg. You can way undercook the yokes and that would be good enough one would think.
ReplyDeleteWow. Stepford has taken a red pill.

ReplyDeleteEggs are a "complete protein" source. Look it up instead of relying on your obviously failing memory.
I'm still a bit queasy at the thought of eating raw egg on its own. With steak tartare it can be well mixed with the meat, though.
ReplyDeleteAnd look, chances are I will not order tartare for myself in future, too. I was just surprised that it didn't have what I thought would be a raw meat flavour, and it was pleasant enough for a few mouthfuls. But it's not as if I thought it was fantastic.
