Some post of yours the other day made me go searching for an old charming blogger who used to be a bit of a name in the right-wing blogosphere, James Lileks - he's still blogging at his old site ('The Bleat'); he seems to be unusually quite, journalistically, though I did find one or two occasional columns which somehow manage to avoid condemning Trump - again, because it would give progressives a 'win'. I'm pretty sure he hates Trump but, if that's true, he can't admit it. Sigh. And so the good go down with the bad.
He did seem a nice enough guy, but I did find the depth of his fondness for nostalgia kind of overwhelming. (By which I mean, just far too many words being spilt on it.)
Maybe the fondness for nostalgia goes with a particular kind of American sentimentality. (Lack of a deep national history combined with a very American kind of patriotic pride creating a strong need to romanticise the recent past?)
Yeah noah is right.
ReplyDeleteDon't think the abortion bans have anything to do with it - they would have happened anyway (given the fall of Roe v Wade).

ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I haven't looked him up for ages.

Unusually quiet. Gah.

His photos of atrocious old "entertainment" recipes from the 50's to (I think) 70's were very amusing, though.
