Big Mac economics

The Economist publishes its Big Mac index again.

I note that Iceland, Norway, Denmark and Switzerland all have greatly over-priced Big Macs. Indonesia and Thailand are some of the cheapest around. Why does cold weather make
hamburgers more expensive?

I thought the comparison had been updated to an iPod Index, not Mc Burgers?

Obviously not implemented yet.

Caz, you're having a commenting frenzy here today. Good to see.

I don't know that iPod's are quite as ubiquitous as Big Macs, are they?

Apparantly they are - now - cheap and readily available most countries. There was an article a few weeks back, in which they said they said they were going to make the switch, thereby "modernising" the index. Up until now there hadn't been a suitable replacement for the Big Mac, but the iPod, it would seem, has attained the necessary ubiquity and was thought to be a good modern economic barometer.
