Why Astronauts Were Banned From Drinking Wine In Outer Space
Maybe I had read something about this years ago, but here in detail is the story of how NASA nearly had wine (sherry) in space, as part of their official menu; but the prohibitionist tendencies of enough of the public led it to not happening.

I went to a beer tasting last year of Four Pines brewery beers and they'd named one of their brews, a stout, a 'space beer'. I can't remember the details behind the name now, but they'd been to a meeting with someone responsible for putting astronauts into space and the agreement was made there to turn the stout into their official space beer. So there you go.
BTW, apropos of your Antarctic chef link above, I heard Australia has an Antarctic brewer too - they decided that shipping so much Melbourne Bitter, or whatever, over to the Australian Antarctic station was not worth the expense; now they just bring over the can kits.
I've probably told you both these things before, or maybe you told me the last anecdote? My memory is not what it used to be since drinking the space beer....
Gee. I would have thought that the back rooms in Antarctica available to brew beer might have been a bit too cool for that purpose. But I suppose they can use a lot of those warming pads.
The female chef talks about how they have to ship out all rubbish from Antarctica, so I suppose it makes more sense that they reuse beer bottles too by brewing their own.
I have never tried brewing my own yet. I think I would prefer to go to one of the places where u hire their facilities to brew up a big batch. Maybe not so economical, but saves a lot of fiddling about at home.
