Wow. Henry Miller's work, and personal attitudes, do sound pretty repulsive in this article. Yet, as it notes, he had some big-names-in-literature endorsements at the time.
It's just the combination of the baldness and aviator glasses, I think. (A bit more than that, perhaps: put a pair of those glasses on Sinclair Davidson and he'd still be distinctively himself.) :)
