Simon on nuclear in Australia

I thought Simon's tweet thread response to the column (which I am sure Jason Soon would be endorsing) by Parnell McGuiness was very reasonable:

costly renewables?

wind is $40 MWh and solar gaining ground on $35 MWh as we speak. old coal is over $40MWh and new coal o is about $80MWH. Nuclear is around $120 MWH.

She and Soony are living in Catallaxy land.

A very hot days say over 40C ( by the way the chances of four successive days of over 40C has fallen like a rock. I wonder why ) guess which one is the most reliable

This is the sort of stupidity that comes from being on the dot.mom all ones life. Holmes A Court never needed to work for money any time in his life.

Jesus Homer you never learn do you? Its no use quoting the advertising on the Chinese packaging when the solar panel shows up in the box. Its what happens in practice that counts. Not the alleged specs the thing has written up about it, when it is shiny and brand new.

What actual argument. It was standard putdown tripe.

I think its an iron law of being on the dot.mom It leaves all ones ideas impractical. Plus being a lifelong public servant is almost as bad.

Back on subject.
Renewables are not costly in fact they are the lowest cost suppliers.the highest cost supplier is nuclear.

Plus they take longer to build.

most would be dead even if they started to build one this year.

No you are talking rubbish. You are doing the stupid old man thing of getting mixed up between the numbers on the packaging, and how things work in practice. A total sucker for fucking advertising propaganda. You didn't used to be this senile. Were you in the Quiggin bubble too long?
