About those Shellenberger claims

Michael Tobis, who has always been worth reading on climate change, has a detailed assessment at Real Climate of the highly dubious "facts few people know" by Shellenberger.

Good stuff.

One of Shellenberger's 12 claims I know to be wrong. His idea that factory farming is a low resource affair. Its a subsidised catastrophe. A massive energy sink. He's just looking at the factory itself. He's not looking at the extra land taken up by the grain fields to supply the feed. Or the network of extra inputs not excluding poisons that wind up in the body of kids. So he hasn't got the best possible view of the situation. Most of all he's not looking at what could be possible if we go the permaculture route with goal of getting rid of the factory farm. Plus the factory farm is just fundamentally unethical.
