Back to Maxwell's equations

A few days ago, I was musing about the complexity of Maxwell's equations, and the lack of historical context in most attempts at explaining them.

Behold, via stumbling around Youtube, I have found the Science Asylum channel and if you don't mind his cheesey sense of humour (it's harmless, and a little charming in the way it's adolescent friendly), his videos are really good.

Here is the one having a go at explaining electromagnetism:

It took the eccentric Oliver Heaviside to make sense of it all. Its true that virtually no-one can make sense of Maxwell directly.

Thats a very good video. Probably the best one you have chosen in awhile. I sent him a message.

"Its probably the best not to frame your theories in the context of aether-denial. All this story of "fields" is really just excuse-making after the aether has been beaten out of the culture, though not out of the universe. Otherwise a very good video."

Plus this guy really does seem to know everything. Thanks for the scoop because now I've got someone whose the real deal to watch. Though he's no rebel and he ought to be still he's very good. And what do you know? He had the inside story on Oliver Heaviside.

This is good stuff. Not like the usual science idiocy you post.
