It is amazing how human beings can create places in the strangest of locales.

Thats just fantastic. I know its not quite my daydream of 60% of the population living within 400 metres of a container-enabled canal wharf. But what a solid effort. Bravo.

I think we could take this narrow city concept further. After all historically cities get built over prime agricultural land. Which is a bit of a paradox and a crying shame. Supposing the five story building with the ground floor as retail was a sort of standard model. And they were specifically built along the sides of train tracks and roads. When you hit an intersection of two main roads, or a train station maybe there is a village. Now just think of this setup for the purpose of example. Might this not be more efficient than cities per se? You'd really only want to live in the villages. But you know. Not all of us are rich. So those of us not particularly well off might wind up on the side of the road buildings. One compensation being that few people are far from the countryside.
