She is one of many, but that is no excuse

Here's a column by Frank Bruni at NYT pointing out the "pathetic" history of Nikki Haley's continual flip flopping on her support/condemnation of Donald Trump.

It's not just the intellectual dishonesty, it's the moral cowardice, and it applies to so, so many Republicans like her.

I have read that many Republicans have a genuine fear of reprisals from the nuttier Trump supporters out there, and that may make their actions more understandable, it is still hard to sympathise completely, as it is also from the right of politics that we hear that people should stand up for what they believe in regardless of consequences. (But it's certainly telling - given that all politicians are subject to threats from time to time, are the Republicans genuinely being more cowardly-custard than anyone else in the western world - or are the threats of reprisals much more constant, and much more serious, in the US than elsewhere?)
