Am I alone in feeling that there is not enough public acknowledgement of the absolutely awesome success of the James Webb Space Telescope? I know world politics has been sad and bad for the last couple of years, but still...
It was kind of incredible that it even unfurled and started operating with no major hiccup. And it seems virtually every week or so there is a story about some observation which is shaking up the world of cosmology and astronomy in a major way.
Should be shown more appreciation, I think.

It might be under appreciated because most people don't realise that for scientists the most exciting time is when theories are being challenged. That is an opportunity to advance careers, perform truly novel experiments and investigations. I'm glad the BBT is under serious challenge because I've never liked it. Now I'm hoping I live long enough to see a radical re-evaluation of evolutionary theory. I don't dispute natural selection but I believe it is incomplete. The metaphysics of materialism doesn't cut it so I'm glad that if my feed from Academia is any guide there is now an active exploration of "embedded intelligence" in the universe rather than a personal Creator. Einstein's Spinoza's God may prove to be the truth rather than intelligence mysteriously emerging out of particles.
So far they just seem to lock their stupidity in further.
