I also have been surprised to see quite a few people (presumably Americans) say in comments that they had to read it in high school. To me, this seems rather surprisingly "high brow" of US high schools. (Claude.ai says it has been a prescribed text since the mid 20th century, most commonly in 9th grade english.) I doubt that it has ever been such in Australia. (Claude.ai seems to think I am correct - suggesting that extracts from it have probably only ever featured in late primary school as an introduction to mythology.)
