...have him (or her) watch Dr Who episodes written by Steven Moffat. (Last night's episode, the first part of "Silence in the Library" was by him, and was bound to creep out any child, as well as a fair few adults.)
My boy handles most of it with well enough, but I had to actually turn off the "Blink" episode, to stop him crying. Strangely, he actually took The Empty Child in his stride, although I thought it was much creepier. But your run of the mill Daleks and Cybermen, he's ok with that.
The library episode was a good scare, sort of reminded me of a michael crichton book called swarm i read recently. Both were left in the dust by the blink episode,that was seriously scary, i think i have and aversion to those gargoyle type creatures. Even if they do look like angels Peter

I remember the cybermen scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.
Needless to say, I loved the show.
