As suspected

Climate engineering offers little hope of mitigation

The problem is it is thought likely to help some parts of the world at the expense of others.  How can we expect international consensus on doing it large scale, then?

Climate engineering is where we're going to end up anyway. Politicians won't make enough progress in time, even though thankfully climate denial is on the wane. The network of dark-funded 'think tanks' and contrarian academics will fight to the last penny, though.

The last few lines of this article about the weird mix of shills and true believers at the Heartland Institute meeting shows how marginalised the cranks are becoming.
