Huh. If I am not mistaken, Sinclair Davidson's Ship for Old (and occasionally middle aged) Fools (Catallaxy) is broken. It hasn't worked completely right for many weeks, actually.
In any event, it's become pretty much unreadable since COVID struck - full of rage against Dan Andrews, continual denial of the seriousness of the disease, the most grovelling Trump admiration, and even internal fighting over whether some of the most hysterical commenters have really gone too hysterical this time. Not to mention one younger nut who posts about his personal involvement in the "resistance" to the Victorian lockdown, but sounds half the time like he's on cocaine. Didn't some anti lockdown protesters get arrested yesterday? With any luck, he will be among them.
Sinclair doesn't make many appearances anymore so I don't get much fun from attacking his dubious takes. The site now looks more like it's "CL and Friends", and the circle of commenters is narrower and more boring than ever. I don't even read the posts by the other cranky, anonymous posters - they all sound like grey haired male retirees with too much time on their hands.
So, the entertainment value is way down.

I've been following that British commentator on Covid. There was some good news he could announce. Death rates are plummeting. Not detracting even a little bit from the serious nature of this virus. I think they are probably doing much better in intensive care. But it may be that people are taking vitamin D more seriously. And then again the virus itself can be morphing away from its unnatural gain-of-function virulent state.
Yeah they are getting a bit boring at catallaxy. They should let me on for a few months. Take them beyond this big business and usury version of capitalism. You cannot do that without being able to insult people. These people are so insular they still don't accept peak oil. That is kind of like not accepting rain. Oil production basically doubled every decade until about 1970 and has maintained a peak since about 2005. What is not to believe? And there are implications to this. We need to do many things differently.
If I go there talking peak oil I'll get pushback from Cambria and Legalise Sedition right away. I need to be on there long enough to make them look stupid and the rest of them own up to these things.
If history is anything to go by, now would be a pretty good time to release a vaccine. Since the virus shows signs of diminishing lethality the vaccine makers usually see this and introduce an ineffective vaccine to take the credit for something that is happening naturally.
The vaccine concept is valid its just overused and the vaccine makers no longer have skin-in-the-game because they cannot be prosecuted. So we aren't looking so much at the failure of a concept. Its more institutional failure. There is one vaccine you must always get. If you are bitten by a wild animal in a country where rabies is rampant, you must get the series of three vaccines starting right away. Thats a situation where you cannot be an anti-vaxxer. This is a special case because there is no safe alternative. Like oxidation therapy early on could work. But you would never risk it. You'd show up and get the three shots and then try and deal with any problems after that.
But this is a special case. For the most part if you know what other alternatives are available you are going to be smart to try and get by without vaccines. Other than rabies you'd be hard-pressed to get a vaccine that will pass any all-causes mortality test.
