Yeah, ever since the Albanese election win I just haven't found Australian politics all that interesting. Sure, I thought the controversy around the Voice referendum was worth commenting on, and worried that Labor was losing support due to the priority it gave that as an issue; but since then, federal politics has seemed a bit of a bore to me.
It is interesting, though, that now that everything about indigenous policy has gone quiet, I get the feeling that a combination of the complete charmlessness of Peter Dutton and the malevolent craziness of Right wing politics on full display in the USA have enhanced Albanese's chances quite strongly.
Everyone seems to think that the moderate independents are going to do well, and the Greens should go backwards. I would be happy with the latter result - I just find that the people the Greens seems to attract as politicians here are also unappealing and way too ideological to know how to get the things they want done.

I hate to say it but I agree. I deleted Insiders instead if watching it. pollies are way too timid.
A poet I knew was running for a Greens seat up there in Queensland. The way he talked about it online was, um, revealing. At one point he said something like he was forced to be nice to old dumb voters even though he really wanted to punch them in the face, and I didn't tell him this, but of course, he was the perfect advertisement for me to vote for anyone but the Greens, next election.
And maybe it would be slightly unfair to judge the Greens on him - one presumes they were going for a quantity over quality electoral strategy across the whole seat, getting as many candidates as possible so they could do preference trading. But still... did they have no candidate vetting process? (If you ever see a poet on your ballot paper, never vote for them! They're crazy!)
Happy to follow your advice re poets, Tim :)
Well, I did give you that free kick.
More important voting advice involving poets, if you're ever at a poetry slam and I'm competing, you should certainly give me 10 out of 10.
(The situation here is admittedly somewhat far fetched).
My big fear is that the Green will hold the balance of power. If Canada is any indication Trump will be a huge benefit to Albanese. The poll turn around there was stunning but the situation is different. Albanese has already tried to tie Dutton to Trump. It will be interesting to see how the coalition handles that. My guess is that they will back away. Dutton's work from home abolition for public servants might backfire because WFH is entrenched in Australian work and private WFH employees will perceive his policy as a threat against them.
